Fuerteventura Golf Course Fuerteventura, Canary Islands
Fuerteventura Golf Course opened in 2002, designed by Juan Catarineu, and was the first 18-hole course built on the island. It sits in Caleta de Fuste, about eight kilometres from the airport, at the heart of a 1.5-million-square-metre resort — the largest green space on Fuerteventura, integrated with the five-star Hotel Elba Palace Golf. The layout runs 18 holes, par 70, 6,069 metres — twelve par-4s, four par-3s and two par-5s. Catarineu built the course around the island's near-constant wind: fairways run up to 50 metres wide, and the greens are shaped to hold shots blown in off the Atlantic. Three lakes, linked by a small stream, cross several holes, and the front nine, plus the 10th, run toward the coast, so the ocean sits behind almost every shot. The course hosted the Spanish Open in 2004. Facilities include a driving range with more than 50 bays, an 800 square-metre putting green, a practice bunker, a pro shop and a restaurant. Great golf and great technical course. A constant challenge. What is your playing style? Aggressive? calm? Beware of the many obstacles, and be wary. This golf course, thanks to the design of Manolo Piñeiro, twice golf world champion becomes a reference on the island of Fuerteventura and is one of the best and most beloved golf courses in the Canary Islands. Manolo's work has led to build a highly technical and fun course, with amazing greens, and numerous obstacles that will force you to consider different strategies of play. In the appendix of holes, you can find some practical advice on how to deal with them. When you play on this course, you will see the effort and skill it involves to to integrate this with the environment. Salinas have always sought the least environmental impact trying that the player is ''relaxed'' to the point that 16 of our 18 holes, you will have excellent views of the sea.
