El Fresnillo Golf Course

El Fresnillo Golf Course opened in 1999 within the Naturávila leisure complex, three kilometres from the walled city of Ávila and around an hour from Madrid. Engineer Carlos Corsini of Ibergolf designed the course, part of a wider portfolio that includes Norba Club in Cáceres and work on the well-known Aloha course on the Costa del Sol.

The course sits almost entirely flat, making for an easy walk despite its considerable length, one of the longer eighteens in the wider Castile and León region. Native vegetation lines wide fairways throughout, and a network of streams and lakes shapes much of the second half, adding real teeth to a round that starts gently. Several greens are ringed by small mounded banks, a design touch said to echo the ancient walls of Ávila itself, and the front nine plays noticeably easier than a more demanding back nine.

Facilities include a driving range and locker rooms, set within a genuinely large sports and leisure complex. Visitors are welcome, though it pays to check ahead on timings. This is a quiet, well-shaped round worth building into any trip to Ávila.
