El Rompido North sits within the protected marshlands of the Río Piedras, on the Costa de la Luz outside Cartaya, threading its way through pine trees and orange groves within sight of the Atlantic. Designed by Álvaro Arana and opened in June 2006, the course has since been named among Europe's top 100 by Top 100 Golf Courses, and the Peugeot Guide has praised it as a modern, thoughtful design that rewards good strategy over raw power.
The layout is flat and comfortably walkable, with long, wide fairways giving golfers of every handicap room to work with, while the medium-sized, quick-running greens keep the scoring honest. Set with no buildings in sight from the fairways, the course leans fully into its wetland surroundings, offering a genuinely natural round rarely found this close to the coast. It's a course that asks you to think through your options rather than simply overpower it.
The wider El Rompido complex includes practice areas and clubs for hire, and the resort's second course, South, sits alongside it for those wanting a full two-round break. Between the setting, the pedigree and the recent European recognition, this is one worth building a Costa de la Luz trip around.

Slow play round course, club house a bit more expensive than the other courses we played.

Recommendation: Book a buggy. The distance between the clubhouse and 1st tee is very long. Also, some of the distances between the green and next tee are long. The course is well-maintained, apart from the areas which have been damaged by wild boar. Some of the holes are straightforward, others are very challenging (especially when playing the course for the first time). The only complaint is that the round took over 5 hours. Ht the ball, wait, hit the ball wait..and so on.

Again bunkers were badly damaged and virtually unplayable due to the storms of last week. Course generally was great more open than south with lots of variety and challenges

The course was an interesting design but not in the best condition. Greens were slower than we would have expected and the grass on both the tees and fairways was too long.

Great course. Fast consistent greens.
Need more signage for tee directions in places
