Real Club de Golf Las Palmas
Real Club de Golf Las Palmas is the oldest golf club in Spain, founded on 17 December 1891 by a group of British residents on Gran Canaria — among them Mackenzie Ross, who would return more than six decades later to design the course as it exists today. The club moved to its current site at Bandama in 1957, on the rim of an extinct volcanic crater, about fifteen minutes from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
18 holes, par 71, 6,636 metres. Narrow fairways run between deep ravines, with small, well-guarded greens — a short course by modern standards, but a technical one, built for accuracy over length. Views take in the crater, the island's summits and the Atlantic. It's a small, member-focused club rather than a resort course, so amenities like GPS buggies are limited — the setting and the history make up for it.
Facilities include two putting greens (one floodlit), a practice tee, a pitching green, a pro shop, a restaurant and wine cellar, plus an equestrian centre with 50 stables and 5 paddocks, two tennis courts, and a 12-room boutique hotel on site. Very nice well-kept course with fast greens. Play was just over four hours due to a slower moving group in front of us. Paired with a gentleman who lived on the island and was English speaking, so we enjoyed our play together. Attractive course but because very small area of land so holes jammed together often driving across the top of a previous green .Fairways very narrow .
Not geared up for visitors mainly for members ...eg most staff do not speak english ....yes I know we should speak spanish but we dont .No buggies with GPS and rangefinding . No course maps more than 3 inches by 3 inches and with no real dimensions . Staff rather flat at welcome but perfectly civil ..again shows lack of visitors . Course well maintained and pretty . Clubhouse old and elegant .
