Spain golf holidays - La Estancia Golf Course

La Estancia Golf Course Chiclana de la Frontera, Andalusia

La Estancia sits just 2.7 kilometres from La Barrosa beach in Chiclana de la Frontera, designed by the Dutch architect Alan Rijks, his first course in Spain. Opened in 2004 as Meliá Sancti Petri, the course changed hands in 2009 and underwent a significant reinvestment in 2014, re-emerging as La Estancia and establishing itself as one of the more distinctive courses in the area. The layout genuinely evokes traditional links golf, in the spirit of courses like St Andrews: flat, easy to walk, and set among newly planted and centuries-old olive trees, holm oaks and pines. Four brooks and three lakes come into play across the round, most notably guarding the green at the 9th, but it's the prevailing sea breeze that does the real work here, shaping club selection hole after hole in a way few other courses on this stretch of coast can match. More than 25 species of birds share the course with golfers, adding a genuinely natural feel to the round. The clubhouse, driving range and full practice facilities are all well regarded, and the restaurant has drawn particular praise from recent visitors. For golfers who want a proper wind-driven, links-style test close to the beach, this is one worth building a round around. (...)

Spain golf holidays - Montenmedio

Montenmedio Cadiz, Andalusia

Montenmedio sits within a 500-hectare stretch of protected Andalusian dehesa near Vejer de la Frontera, and it genuinely doesn't look like anywhere else on the Costa de la Luz. Designed by Alejandro Maldonado and opened in 1996, the course has no buildings anywhere along its fairways or greens, just wild olive, cork oak and pine forest, with deer, rabbits and ducks a regular sight during a round. The par-72 layout is a classic parkland design that makes good use of the natural terrain, wide and welcoming off the tee but demanding real course management once the wind and scattered hazards come into play. Between the trees, several holes open onto genuinely striking views: the whitewashed villages of Vejer, Benalup and Medina, and on a clear day, the African coast beyond the Strait of Gibraltar. The clubhouse, styled in Andalusian neoclassical fashion with Asian touches, offers a proper base for the day, alongside a full practice area and driving range. For golfers who want a round set apart from the coast's busier resorts, in a landscape that feels genuinely untouched, this is one to build a visit around. (...)

Spain golf holidays - Golf Campano

Golf Campano Chiclana de la Frontera, Andalusia

Golf Campano forms part of the wider Novo Sancti Petri golf complex in Chiclana de la Frontera, on the Costa de la Luz. Originally opened as a nine-hole course in 1985, it was always designed with a full 18-hole layout in mind, and that vision was completed with an expansion in 2007. The front nine plays through parkland around the San Andrés urbanisation, known for fast greens and fairways that reward precision over power, with trees and water hazards punishing anything loose. The back nine opens out among a number of ancient olive trees and three large lakes, with wider, more forgiving greens offering a different rhythm to the round. A stream crossed by distinctive red bridges reappears throughout the course and adds a memorable visual thread to the layout. A complimentary shuttle bus connects Campano to the rest of the Novo Sancti Petri complex, making it easy to combine with a round on one of the resort's other courses. For golfers looking to add real variety to a Chiclana-based golf trip, this is a solid, characterful course worth including. (...)

Spain golf holidays - Sherry Jerez Golf

Sherry Jerez Golf Sanlucar de Barrameda, Andalusia

Sherry Golf Jerez sits just outside the city, overlooking the sherry-producing vineyards the region is famous for, and was designed by Blake Stirling and Marco Martin of Global Golf Company in 2004. It's a modern, American-style layout with wide fairways and generous greens, built to be genuinely enjoyable for amateurs while still testing better players. The front nine climbs into a hillside, with real changes in elevation from the very first hole, before the back nine settles into flatter ground dotted with lakes, including a memorable island-green par 3 from the 11th onward. Well-placed hazards and undulation keep things interesting without tipping into unfair, and the course has built a reputation over two decades for consistently good conditioning. Look out for the bunker on the 18th, shaped like a horse's head in tribute to Jerez's famous equestrian tradition. Sherry Golf has hosted a genuine run of amateur and qualifying tournaments since opening, testament to a course built for serious golf as much as an enjoyable one. For a well-conditioned, genuinely varied round close to the city, this is well worth booking. (...)

Spain golf holidays - Sancti Petri Hills Golf

Sancti Petri Hills Golf Chiclana de la Frontera, Andalusia

Sancti Petri Hills Golf club actually describes itself as a “golf garden”; this tropical garden surrounded by the native umbrella pines gives the golf course it’s unique character. Designed by Manuel Pinero, former European Ryder Cup team vice-captain, and opened in 2006 this golf course is a great addition to the golfing centre that the Novo Sancti Petri area is becoming. Situated adjacent to the 54 holes of Real Novo Sancti Petri Golf Club, the Sancti Petri Hills Golf Club offers the holidaying golfer the chance to be based at a wide range of local golf holiday hotels and have ready access to the 90 holes of golf on your doorstep and eliminate the need to drive too far to play golf each day. The golf course itself features lakes and other water hazards on many holes and also features superb bunkering around most of the multi-tiered greens. The fairways wind through the umbrella pine forest leading eventually back to the well-appointed clubhouse that offers all the usual amenities such as bar/restaurant, pro shop, changing facilities etc. (...)
