Anfi Tauro Golf Course opened in 2006, its front nine playing first, with the back nine following a year later. Designed by von Hagge, Smelek and Baril, working with the late Norwegian industrialist Bjørn Lyng, the course required moving more than three million cubic metres of earth to carve fairways out of barren volcanic rock in the Tauro valley, on Gran Canaria's Mogán coast. The layout runs 18 holes, par 72, Arizona desert-style, stretching from 4,448 metres off the forward tees to 6,325 metres from the back across five sets of markers. Craggy rock formations, sandy waste areas and three lakes shape the round. The 6th, a one-shot hole played straight into the Atlantic wind, and the 13th, cut into the mountainside with a stone wall guarding the left, are the two holes players tend to remember. The course has hosted a Spanish PGA Championship event. The clubhouse has a restaurant with a terrace looking out over the valley. A buggy is required, at extra cost, and the driving range sits off-site, reached by car rather than on foot — worth knowing before you book. A separate par-3 course on the property has hosted national Pitch & Putt championships. Book Anfi Tauro through Tee Times for one of Gran Canaria's most distinctive rounds, carved straight out of the mountain. (...)
Maspalomas Golf Course opened in 1968, designed by Mackenzie Ross — the same architect behind Turnberry and the current layout at Real Club de Golf Las Palmas — and is generally regarded as the first tourist golf course built in Spain. It sits beside the Maspalomas Dunes Nature Reserve in the south of Gran Canaria, a short walk from the beach. The course runs 18 holes, par 73, flat and long, with wide, forgiving fairways and only two holes bringing water into play. Strategically placed bunkers and the steady Atlantic trade winds do most of the defending, so distance control matters more than the flat layout suggests. It particularly suits beginners and higher handicappers; stronger players may find it a gentler test than some of the island's newer courses. The course has hosted international tournaments over its long history. Facilities include a two-storey driving range with a reach beyond 300 metres, two putting greens, a pitching green, a Trackman simulator with a resident pro, a pro shop, restaurant and snack bar, a buggy bar out on the course, and even pilates sessions for golfers and non-golfing partners alike. Book Maspalomas through Tee Times for an easy-walking, well-maintained round with more history behind it than almost any other course on the island. (...)
Meloneras Golf course with a par 71 is situated in the new exclusive touristic resort coast of Meloneras with good accessibility to modern luxury hotels and shopping centres. Meloneras Golf offers its clients an innovative service such as buggies with GPS. The golfers can enjoy their game on 520.000 square meters between lakes and palm-trees. The course is also appropriate for international competitions. It has four different tees per hole, thus players with different handicaps can enjoy playing. Meloneras Golf is dedicated to professionals as well as amateurs, but also to those interested in golf who are holding a golf-club for the first time in their lifes. The golf course begins with a simple par four so the golfer can adjust his technique and prepare for the challenges of the circuit. (...)
