Abama Golf Course
Abama Golf Course was designed by the Welsh architect Dave Thomas and opened in 2005, with former US President Bill Clinton playing in the inaugural round. It climbs the west face of Mount Teide in Guía de Isora, reaching 315 metres above sea level — enough to take in the Atlantic, La Gomera and, on clear days, El Hierro, from most of its 18 holes.
The course runs through 25,000 palm trees and more than 300 subtropical plant species, with 22 lakes linked by waterfalls and white sand bunkers throughout. The large greens are built to suit a wide range of handicaps, but play fast and demand real touch — a theme that comes up again and again from golfers who've played it. Two holes, including the course's most photographed par-4, have recently been shortened to par 3s. The course has hosted the Canarias European Tour Open and the Tenerife Ladies Open, and was a 2024 nominee for Spain's Best Golf Course at the World Golf Awards.
Facilities include a golf academy offering private and group lessons, a driving range, putting greens and practice bunkers, all set within the Abama resort alongside the Ritz-Carlton Abama. A great experience and a really tough course, especially on the greens. The practice putting area gives you a flavour of how fast and challenging the greens were going to be they didn't disappoint. However everyone enjoyed the day and the layout of the course was superb.

A very difficult course to review. Location, layout and design all very good. The greens however are nearly unplayable. Whilst they are in good condition, they are VERY fast and often quite undulating. Most times one is 3 or 4 putting each green, and I am usually a good putter! On occasions, a putt 3 foot above the hole ended up in the water 5 - 10 meters off the front of the green. I played this course when it first opened and the greens were super fast then. This seems a silly thing to allow on a resort course as it spoils the round, in my opinion. For this reason alone I would not be in a hurry to go back as Adeje and Buena Vista are just as stunning to play and have sensible greens.

Excellent course and service.
Apart from 2 holes where they have moved the tees forward to make 2 very short holes the layout is superb.
The greens are excellent and near professional speed. Very tricky with the grain.
