Real Club Pineda de Sevilla

Real Club Pineda sits just three kilometres from Seville, one of Spain's most storied clubs, founded as an equestrian club by army officers in the 1940s. The original nine holes, designed by Sevillian architects Rodrigo and Felipe Medina Benjumea, opened that decade; a second nine followed in 1992. The club is currently partway through a significant restoration led by international firm Clayton, DeVries & Pont, working alongside Spanish professional Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño to restore the historic character of the original holes.

The course itself is a genuine curiosity: wide, flat fairways divided by stone pines and palms give way to small, tightly guarded greens, and the club's private horse-racing track, one of the only such tracks in Spain, actually crosses the course during play. The par-4 1st, a demanding dogleg, is considered one of the toughest starts in the area.

This is a strictly private club: visitors can only play if accompanied by a member, so this isn't a course you can simply book and turn up to. For golfers with a genuine connection to the club, though, it's one of the most historically rich rounds on offer near Seville.
