Serena Golf Course Los Alcázares, Murcia
La Serena sits close to the Mar Menor in Los Alcázares, its fairways winding around the Torre del Rame, a watchtower that has stood guard over these waters for five centuries. Manuel Piñero, the former Ryder Cup player, designed the course, which opened in 2006 on largely flat ground where the sea breeze off the Mar Menor does most of the defending. Water is the course's defining feature, coming into play on sixteen of the eighteen holes and demanding real precision from the first tee onward. The par-3 3rd is the sternest test, asking for a 170-metre carry over water to reach the green directly, while the par-5 11th stretches out to around 500 metres for the longest hole on the card. It's a course that rewards a golfer who plots a route around the hazards rather than simply attacking them, with the historic watchtower a constant, striking presence throughout the round. A driving range overlooking the Mar Menor, two practice greens and a clubhouse terrace with sea views round out the experience. La Marquesa Golf Rojales, Comunidad Valenciana
La Marquesa has been a fixture of Costa Blanca golf since 1989, when Justo Quesada designed the course as the founding piece of what became the Ciudad Quesada development near Rojales. It has since grown into one of the most-played courses in the province, sitting in a level valley with a mountain backdrop and its own gentle microclimate. The course leans on variety rather than length: ramps, blind holes and two lakes ask different questions from tee to tee, while bunkers guard the greens closely enough to demand real precision on the approach. Its best-known moment is the 16th, a faithful replica of the island green at Sawgrass's famous 17th, where nerve counts for as much as swing. Tees sit close to greens throughout, keeping the round moving between the more demanding stretches. New Sierra Golf sits in open countryside near Balsicas, a genuinely peaceful setting away from any urban development, with the surrounding Murcian hills visible from across the course. What began as a smaller, largely forgotten course was rebuilt and expanded into a full eighteen holes, giving the region a course that plays as a proper full round rather than a repeated nine. The layout favours a walkable, natural feel over dramatic terrain, with Bermuda fairways and smooth greens that reward a straightforward, well-placed game. Two par 5s open and close the round at over 530 metres apiece, giving long hitters something to aim at, while a mix of tighter par 4s and testing par 3s keeps the card honest throughout. It's a course built for enjoyment first, without ever feeling like an easy touch.
