Camiral Stadium Course (ex PGA Catalunya)
Camiral Stadium opened in 1999, built from the ground up by Neil Coles MBE and Ángel Gallardo, then Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the European Tour, on land near Girona once earmarked for a Formula 1 circuit before the sport moved to Montmeló. More than a decade of planning went into it, and the course was designed from the outset to stage the biggest events in the game, with wide banking built to hold thirty thousand spectators. It has hosted the Spanish Open three times and the European Tour's Qualifying School Final Stage for years running, and it now carries the weight of hosting the 2031 Ryder Cup, Spain's first since Valderrama in 1997.
The course is hilly, framed by fir trees and thick with purple heather, with large, fast greens running at a stimpmeter of 10 to 11. The signature 13th is a downhill par four with the green wrapped by a lake, and the whole layout has been lengthened and toughened over the years in step with the European Tour's own standards. This is Camiral's serious test, tougher and tighter than the Tour course next door.
Book Camiral Stadium for a round on the same holes the world's best will play in 2031, and stay on to compare it against the Tour course while both are still open to visitors.

This is a high quality set up, from arrival and welcome by the caddy master, to entering the sizeable and wonderfully stocked pro shop, then onto the terraced bar/restaurant, where the service is top class and so is the food. Then, the Stadium course. I'd booked this before the announcement on 2031, and its easy to see why the resort has been chosen, what a great 18 holes. Greens were a little woolly compared to the silky Tour course greens, but even so, a top 5 course out of over 250 played, so it's well worth a visit and/or stay. Dennis and Catherine's vision for Camiral is a joy to be part of. Thank you and good luck for the Ryder Cup. we'll be back ;-)
