Girona Golf Course opened in 1992, designed by the English architect F.W. Hawtree on a country estate ten kilometres north of the city, seeded entirely with Penncross grass. Hawtree himself is said to have called it ''one of my finest creations,'' and the back nine in particular explains why.
The course plays to a par of 72 over roughly 6,091 metres, resting between valleys and hills with the Gavarres foothills acting as a natural windbreak on blustery days. The front nine is genuinely competitive, demanding every club in the bag, while the back nine turns spectacular: every tee is built on a wall of local Girona stone, lifting players above the fairways for panoramic views that make the round as much a pleasure to look at as to play. Undulating, open from the tee, and adapted closely to the natural terrain, it rewards a player who takes the time to enjoy the shot as much as plan it.
The clubhouse spans nearly 2,800 square metres, with a Mediterranean restaurant and picture windows over the course. Book Girona Golf Course for a peaceful, family-run round with genuinely memorable back-nine views, just ten minutes from Girona airport.
