Torremirona Golf Course opened in 1993, designed by Eugenio Aguado and Jordi Soler through fields and forest in the Empordà countryside, seven kilometres from Figueres and roughly equidistant between the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean. It's part of a wider resort that has grown up around the golf, sharing in the region's IAGTO recognition as a Best Emerging Golf Destination since 2000.
The course plays to a par of 72, with wide fairways that suit a relaxed round alongside undulating, tricky greens that keep it interesting for better players. Lakes and bunkers come into play throughout, and the par-three 5th is the hole to remember, its green sitting entirely on an island. Complicated drops and narrow stretches test shot-shape as much as distance, and the mountain views stay with you for most of the round.
Beyond the eighteen holes, the resort runs to a hotel, spa, tennis and paddle courts, and even horse riding and quad biking for anyone travelling with a non-golfing crowd. Book Torremirona Golf Course for a relaxed but genuinely testing round, with enough beyond the fairways to fill out a proper multi-day stay.
