La Llorea Golf Course

La Llorea Golf Course holds a genuine piece of Spanish golf history: opened in stages through 1994 and 1995, it was the first fully municipal 18-hole course in the country, built on the grounds of the old Lloreda farm on a coastal ridge above Gijón. The sea sits close by throughout the round, and the course itself is split in two by the N-632 highway, which crosses directly through the middle of it.

Roland Favret designed the layout with a deliberate balance in mind: the front nine punishes players who slice the ball, while the back nine catches out those who hook it, so no single swing fault goes unchallenged. The par-4 4th, its green tiny and heavily guarded, and the par-4 7th are the standout holes on the front, while the back nine's two best par 3s, the 13th and a windswept 16th that plays into a headwind for most of the year, close out a genuinely well-balanced round.

A driving range, locker rooms and putting green are all on site, with online booking available. Genuinely open to all and steeped in real municipal golf history, La Llorea is an easy, characterful round to build into a Gijón stay.
