La Rasa de Berbes Golf Course

La Rasa de Berbes Golf Course sits on a coastal plateau near Ribadesella, between the protected Sierra del Sueve and the beaches of Vega and Berbes, with the Picos de Europa rising to the south. Founded by a small group of local enthusiasts in 1990, the course has grown steadily since its first holes opened in 1994 and today plays a full 18.

José Manuel Canfrán designed the layout with input from club founder Luis Estévez Fernández, later refining it to suit the average golfer without losing its rugged character. Wide fairways and low rough make the ball easy to find, but elevated, tricky-to-read greens and a constant threat of slopes and ravines keep every shot honest. The par-3 13th, named for Ribadesella itself, offers one of the finest panoramic views on the course, of the town and coastline beyond. It's also genuinely rare in one respect: a resident herd of fallow deer graze the fairways alongside golfers, entirely undisturbed by the game going on around them.
