Montanya Golf Course

Montanya Golf Course was designed by David Thomas and opened in 1989, built around L'Estanyol, a Catalan farmhouse estate with land records dating back to 1497, inside the Montseny Natural Park. The clubhouse itself is the restored farmhouse, sitting beside an ancient oak, the Alzina Rodona, catalogued as a Natural Monument of Catalonia.

The course plays to a par of 72 over roughly 6,067 metres from the yellow tees, and the front and back nines feel genuinely different: a short, technical opening stretch gives way to a bigger, more expansive back nine, with the raised first tee over a lake setting the tone early and the 10th playing over a natural water reserve. The 7th offers a clear view to the Pyrenees, and the 18th closes with the Montseny massif, and its highest peak El Matagalls, filling the background. Wildlife on the property runs to 58 recorded species, 37 of them protected, so this is a round played through genuine, quietly managed nature rather than landscaped parkland.
