Llavaneras Golf Course was founded in 1945 with an original nine holes built by British enthusiasts settled on this stretch of the Maresme coast, making it the fourth-oldest club in Catalonia. F.W. Hawtree laid out that initial design, and Ramón Espinosa, Magí Sardà and Alfonso Vidaor expanded it to a full eighteen holes in 1989. This is a short, technical course, par 70, threaded through pine trees and gentle slopes rather than built for raw length. Precision matters more than power here, particularly around the medium-sized, well-bunkered greens, and the short game gets tested more than most Costa coast courses ask of it. The Mediterranean stays in view for much of the round, and the 17th, known as El Mirador, is the hole players remember: a par four played from a high tee box with the best sea view on the course, distracting enough that more than one golfer has lost their concentration over the shot. The clubhouse terrace carries the same view out over the coast, a good spot to finish the day. Montanya Golf Course was designed by David Thomas and opened in 1989, built around L'Estanyol, a Catalan farmhouse estate with land records dating back to 1497, inside the Montseny Natural Park. The clubhouse itself is the restored farmhouse, sitting beside an ancient oak, the Alzina Rodona, catalogued as a Natural Monument of Catalonia. The course plays to a par of 72 over roughly 6,067 metres from the yellow tees, and the front and back nines feel genuinely different: a short, technical opening stretch gives way to a bigger, more expansive back nine, with the raised first tee over a lake setting the tone early and the 10th playing over a natural water reserve. The 7th offers a clear view to the Pyrenees, and the 18th closes with the Montseny massif, and its highest peak El Matagalls, filling the background. Wildlife on the property runs to 58 recorded species, 37 of them protected, so this is a round played through genuine, quietly managed nature rather than landscaped parkland. Vallromanes Golf Course was designed by F.W. Hawtree and opened in September 1972, a classic parkland layout built around the Torre Tavernera, a stately manor house from the early 18th century that now serves as the clubhouse. It sits just 25 minutes from central Barcelona, in the wine country of the D.O. Alella, and has built a genuine competitive pedigree since. The course plays to a par of 72 over roughly 6,044 metres, with wide fairways that open the door to good scoring and demanding, well-contoured greens that close it again depending on where the flags sit. It hosted the Spanish Open in October 1985, won by Severiano Ballesteros in a tournament that also marked the professional debut of José María Olazábal, and the Woolmark Match Play on the women's European circuit in 1989. Mediterranean forest lines much of the round, and the layout rewards imagination around the greens as much as raw length off the tee. The clubhouse alone is worth the visit, one of the most characterful settings on any course near Barcelona. Real Club de Golf El Prat traces back to 1912, when Count Churruca founded it as Barcelona's first golf club; a royal visit from Alfonso XIII later added the ''Real'' to its name. Airport expansion forced a move in 1997, and the club reopened in 2003 on the Bonvilar estate between Terrassa and Sabadell, where Greg Norman designed all 45 holes from scratch. It has hosted the Spanish Open ten times since, a record few Spanish clubs can match. The Pink course, Norman's own favourite of the layouts here, opens with a tight, technical front nine before a longer back nine that punishes anything but a controlled recovery shot. Elevated, well-guarded greens and fairway bunkers set close against the fairway edge keep the course honest even for scratch players, while the Yellow course offers a different, equally serious test alongside it. Pine woodland and glimpses down to the Mediterranean run through both. A clubhouse by architect Carles Ferrater, a 300-metre driving range and full practice facilities round out the visit. Club Golf Barcelona opened in 1989 as Club de Golf Masia Bach, José María Olazábal's first course design, laid out on hilly ground at the edge of the Penedès wine country some 27 kilometres northwest of Barcelona. A 2007 refurbishment brought a new clubhouse and a course redesign, and the club took its present name. Vineyards and the Montserrat massif frame the setting, a quiet, cultivated stretch of Catalonia within easy reach of the city and El Prat airport. The 18-hole Masia Bach course plays to a par of 72 over 6,271 metres, and its fairways roll hard enough that most golfers choose a buggy over walking it. Olazábal put the ground to work: 28 fairway bunkers, 48 greenside bunkers, water in play at several holes, and a run of blind approaches that reward local knowledge over guesswork. The par-four 8th is the one to remember, water tight along the left of both fairway and green, out of bounds waiting on the right. The course has carried real weight in professional golf, hosting the 1991 Spanish Professional Championship, the Peugeot Tour Spain in 2003 and 2005, and the Ladies European Tour's Catalonia Ladies Masters in 2007. A 9-hole Executive course offers an easier round for newer players or a warm-up before the main event.
